James (Phil) VanEtten Jr.
Phil retired from the Marine Corps in 2009 and remained in Okinawa after 27 years of service to our nation. His second career started as an advisor to the Commanding General of 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and later led a major contract to support III MEF and MCIPAC as a Program Manager for Booz Allen Hamilton. He currently serves as the USO Okinawa Area Director for the last eight years. He has numerous years of leadership in Defense consulting, military operations, education, training, family readiness programs, and volunteering for large and small organizations. Phil earned a B.S. in Aviation Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida and an M.S. in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces of the National Defense University (now the Eisenhower School). Phil hails from Bethalto, Illinois and has a daughter named Christal. He is married to the former Yoshino Hashimoto. Phil loves watching sumo and baseball and enjoys throwing darts.
